The Ascension

Updated: Jan 13, 2020

Line upon line.
Row upon row.
Shuffling,
Shifting,

We stand.

x & y axes meet.
The interlocking pieces of a tessellation,
Shadows of darkness bouncing off light.

Like chess pieces jockeying for position
In the rumbling silence

Before a battle begins.

Or as flights of swallows
Swooping back and forth,
The undulations of a Japanese fan in the breeze.

Sandalwood beads slip through fingers
Like grains of sand
In an hourglass

While upswept hands cup Mercy
Streaming from angels’ wings.

We chant,
And pray,
And plead.

Rhythms of Change,
Chained by Time,
Freed by prostrations of Love.
